the most important thing you've learned in this class from the literature we read

I learned People back then had it harder than us. They had only to live or to die. It was almost like every man was for himself. You had the lituraterre heros as in the beginning of languages. Then we progressed to god and goddesses where they had all the power. Then lastly the new world where everyone was getting along and establishing boundaries.

World lit post on presidents

which of our current presidential candidates has the most firm ethical standards and which has the most relativistic and situational ethics. Which set of ethics is better for a president?
Hilary has more firm ethical standards. For instance she doesn't support abortion. Hilary has most situational ethics because her husband has already been in the position she in. Trump has more realistic perspective because he doesn't care what comes out his mouth. Ethical standards are needed more than situational ethics because you will be in control of a nation. Every situation won't be the same so you leave room for discrepancy.

post 17 beauty in your favorite song

I don't have a favorite song so I'm just going to pick one. See you again by Wiz Khalifa.
It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
In this first verse he say how him and his bestfriend have been without each other for a long time. He implies he's passed away when he says  I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. In the second verse he talks about all the good memories they share. He talks about how they loved driving cars and exploring new places. He states last that it's not always about buisness but when it is hard work pays off.
All the planes we flew
Good things we've been through
That I'll be standing right here talking to you
'Bout another path
I know we loved to hit the road and laugh
But something told me that it wouldn't last
Had to switch up
Look at things different, see the bigger picture
Those were the days
Hard work forever pays
Now I see you in a better place

wold lit post 16 the view of Jesus presented in the Qu'ran

the view of Jesus is the opposite of the bible teaching saying Adam didn't touch Eve and Jesus didn't get crucified he was taken whole.
Jesus was born of a virgin. (19:19-21, Yusif Ali)
Jesus was given revelation by Allah (19:30, Yusif Ali)
Jesus taken bodily into Heaven  (3:55, Yusif Ali)
Jesus was created (3:59, Yusif Ali)

world lit post 15 similarities between the Qur'an and the New Testament

similarities

1) Believe in one true God, not the concept of Trinity

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord, and the Lord your God is to be loved with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Mark 12:28-30 …“Which law is the first of all?” Jesus said in answer, “The first is, Give ear, O Israel:The Lord our God is one Lord; and you are to have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”
Holy Quran 112:1-4 ‘Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begets not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.
Holy Quran 2:163 ‘And your God is One God. There is no God but He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.’

2) Confess that Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) was only a messenger, NOT GOD.

John 5:30 ‘I (Jesus) by myself can do nothing – as I hear I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my will, but the will of thy who has sent me’.
John 17:3 ‘This is eternal life, so that you may know there is one true God, and Jesus Christ, who Thou has sent.’
Mathew 19:16-17 ‘One of the persons approaches Jesus, and says ‘Good Master, what good things shall I do, that I shall attain eternal life.’ And Jesus said unto him, ‘Why do you call me good? For there is none good, except One, that is God – And if you want to enter life, keep the commandments’.
Holy Quran 4:157 ‘That they said (in boast), “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah,” but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not.’

3) Perform prostration (as-sujud) in their prayers

Exodus 34:8 ‘Then Moses quickly went down on his face in worship.’
Joshua 5:14 ‘…Then Joshua, falling down with his face to the earth in worship…’
Matthew 26:39 ‘And he (Jesus) went forward a little and falling down on his face in prayer…’
Holy Quran 32:15 ‘Only those believe in Our Signs, who, when they are recited to them, fall down in prostration, and celebrate the praises of their Lord, nor are they (ever) puffed up with pride.’
Holy Quran 22:77 ‘O you who believe! Bow down, prostrate yourselves, and adore your Lord; and do good; that you may prosper.’

4) Wearing hijab is an obligation for women

1 Corinthians 11:6-10 ‘For if a woman is not veiled, let her hair be cut off; but if it is a shame to a woman to have her hair cut off, let her be veiled.’
Holy Quran 33:59 ‘O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments (veil); this will be more proper, that they may be known, and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.’

5) Pork is prohibited to eat

Deuteronomy 14:8 ‘And the pig is unclean to you, because though it has a division in the horn of its foot, its food does not come back; their flesh may not be used for food or their dead bodies touched by you.’
Holy Quran 5:3 ‘Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine…’

6) Polygamy (having more than a wife) is allowed (but limited in Islam)

1 Chronicles 14:3 ‘And while he was living in Jerusalem, David took more wives and became the father of more sons and daughters.’
Holy Quran 4:3 ‘…marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course.

Differences

1) Christians believe that God rests and sleeps, but Muslims believe that God does not need a rest at all, neither does He need a sleep.

Psalm 44:23 “Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Awake! And come to our help, do not give us up forever.”
Holy Quran 50:38 ‘We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.’ (Holy Quran 2:255) ‘Allah. There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep…’

2) Christians believe that God can be seen, but Muslims believe that God cannot be seen at anytime and under any circumstances.

Genesis 32:30 And Jacob gave that place the name of Peniel, saying, “I have seen God face to face, and still I am living.”
Holy Quran 6:103 ‘Vision comprehends Him not, and He comprehends (all) vision; and He is the Knower of subtleties, the Aware.’

3) Muslims have great respect for their prophets and believe that their good manners are above suspicion, but prophets in the Bible were accused of great sins such as adultery, incest & blasphemy.

Genesis 19:31-36 ‘And the older daughter said to her sister, “Our father is old, and there is no man to be a husband to us in the natural way. Come, let us give our father much wine, and we will go into his bed, so that we may have offspring by our father.”
Holy Quran 21:74-75 ‘And (as for) Lot, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; And We admitted him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good.’

4) Muslims are required to respect their parents & family members, but on the other hand, Jesus Christ in the Bible did not respect his own mother & encouraged his disciples to hate their fathers & mothers.

Matthew 12:47-50 ‘While he (Jesus) was still talking to the people, his mother and his brothers came, desiring to have talk with him. And one said to him, ‘See, your mother and your brothers are outside, desiring to have talk with you.’ But he in answer said to him who gave the news, “Who is my mother and who are my brothers?” And he put out his hand to his disciples and said, “See, my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the pleasure of my Father in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Holy Quran 19:30-32 ‘Jesus said: Surely I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet; And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and He has enjoined on me prayer and poorrate so long as I live; And dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me insolent, unblessed…’

Holy Quran 46:15 ‘And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months…’

5) Women in Islam do have some rights over their husbands, but women in Christianity don’t have any rights, and they must only be silent.

1 Timothy 2:12-14 ‘In my opinion it is right for a woman not to be a teacher, or to have rule over a man, but she must be silent. For Adam was first formed, then Eve; And Adam was not taken by deceit, but the woman, being tricked, became a wrongdoer.’

Holy Quran 2:228 ‘…and their husbands have a better right to take them (women) back in the meanwhile if they wish for reconciliation; and they (women) have rights similar to those against them in a just manner…’

6) Wisdom & knowledge are emphasized in Islam, but not in Christianity.

Ecclesiastes 1:18 ‘Because in much wisdom is much grief, and increase of knowledge is increase of sorrow.’
Holy Quran 58:11 ‘…Allah will exalt those of you who believe, and those who are given knowledge, in high degrees; and Allah is Aware of what you do.’

7) In war, Islam commands Muslims not to kill the enemy’s women or children and to be kind & just to innocent people; but in the Bible, Jews are commanded to kill guiltless women and children during war.

1 Samuel 15:2-3 ‘The Lord of armies says, I will give punishment to Amalek for what he did to Israel, fighting against him on the way when Israel came out of Egypt. Go now and put Amalek to the sword, putting to the curse all they have, without mercy: put to death every man and woman, every child and baby at the breast, every ox and sheep, camel and ass.’

Holy Quran 5:32 ‘For this reason did We prescribe to the children of Israel that whoever slays a soul, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he slew all men; and whoever keeps it alive, it is as though he kept alive all men…’

8- In Islam, the Holy Quran tells us that the difference of languages is actually one of God’s miracles, but in Christianity, the Bible tells us that the difference is to confuse mankind due to God’s jealousy to them.

Genesis 11:1-7 ‘And all the earth had one language and one tongue… And the Lord came down to see the town and the tower which the children of men were building. And the Lord said, “See, they are all one people and have all one language; and this is only the start of what they may do: and now it will not be possible to keep them from any purpose of theirs. Come, let us go down and take away the sense of their language, so that they will not be able to make themselves clear to one another.”

Holy Quran 30:22 ‘And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and colours; most surely there are signs in this for the learned.

responding to two of my colleagues' position about the war in Syria

Dayshoan said, "we shouldn't worry about foreign affairs, but we may need them one day." I think people are using us until the resource they want is not useful to them anymore then they could kick us to the curve. Even worse they could find something better than what we have and then have the up side on us. Malik feel like we should help because its better if we have strength in numbers. I don't think we should put our military at risk for someone else. If they bring it to our soil then that's when we should get involved.

World lit Post 13 addressing the justness of the US war in Syria

I don't think we should be the world's police. We should focus on our own problems before trying to go out into someone else's territory. Unless it effects us we shouldn't intervine. We are putting our people at risk to save their nation. That's just like saying we have an abundance of people like China. If we was to ever get into it with China i'm afraid we would lose because for every one person we have they have three. In The Bhagavad-Gita, "So we cannot in justice slay our kinsmen, Dhritarashtra's sons, for, having killed our people, how could we be pleased, O Madhava?

World lit. post 5 a brief tragic narrative based in your own experience or that of someone you know,

I had a family member and friend in a gang they started at school. The law caught up with my cousin and my friend never claimed the gang or if he knew who they was. My cousin was sentenced to 20 years in prison because of attempting to murder someone who wanted to be out of the gang. I had my friend trying to get on the right path and start over. He never got to graduate with me because he was behind. He moved in with his dad around christmas and the day before christmas he was shot 3 times in the middle of the night. He didn't intend for that to happen. He just wanted a new start.

world lit post 3 the psychology of the various characters in our poems and what that psychology reveals about ancient views of eroticism

Ancient views of eroticism was that it was normal to show sexual things in public. They had statues and monuments that showed certain sexual favors and parts. It isn't how they define it today. Today in public they say its unacceptable. It's public display of affection. Sappho's was into love poems. She used deep meanings to convey her love. Catullus talked about his surroundings. He used what he saw to talk about the way he feel.

World lit post 2

Desmon believes " creations can be used to describe how the world began and how people became apart of the world." We both have the same belief as to how the world came to be. Christian believes a "creation is bringing something into existence."
That is true technically because it's what someone else believe.

world lit post 1

I like creation stories because you see how other people thought. You get to see what they believed happened. You can make sense of their reasoning.

post 25 about the most important thing you've learned in this class

From this class I learned how to analyze and break down readings better. I learned how to interpretations are different depending on how the reader thinks.

Post 24 compare and contrast colleagues view of women roles today

Jahai Canty  said "The role of women in the modern family in today life is equal to men. Women are still trying to challenge men to be there dominant but it is not the same. Women and men have the rights but men are often seen as the foundation of every thing in modern family life. The women are the care takers in the family."
Jaylen Pope said " The women in modern family life are traditional and dependent. They took care of the kids, cook, clean, and were obligated to stay in bubble meaning they did not have a say or option. Acting dumb and being beautiful was encouraged in society at that time. I think that women roles now is that they more independent and have more business drive. Today's women are doing things on their own meaning that they are not depending on the man to pay their bills or to take care of them." I agree with Jahai women are the care takers in the family. They both said the same thing worded differently.

Post 23 role of women in modern family life

In today's society women are suppose to stay at home. They are supposed to cook, clean, or stay at home and watch kids. They may also work pink collar jobs such as teaching, nurse, receptionist, and many more. I think the image that woman can do everything a guy can do has developed in society today. the thing is will a man let them do it.

Post 20 a metaphor in a song lyric

Firework by Katy Perry
‘Cause, baby, you're a firework
Come on, show ’em what you‘re worth
This poem is showing self love. Those lyrics is saying everyone is a firework. meaning you can achieve anything you put your mind to

Post 19 the images 2 colleagues' discussed in their posts and how we differ.

Jalen said  "In the poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou someone could interpreted the poem different than me depending on their perspective. Personally, I think that the poem is describing a woman that is confident in herself and does not care what anyone else says."Cause I'm a woman, Phenomenally, Phenomenal, That's me."  My favorite song is Beautiful by Christina Aguilera which mean everyone is beautiful in their own way despite their sexuality, or how they look. " You are beautiful in every single way.."." I feel like Maya was describing herself and not trying to up bring women. But with her kind of role model figure people interpreted as if she was describing how black women are. Sadie said "Action speaks louder then words, and images are sometimes better then words. I know when I look at an image I can see the words throughout the image and sometimes predict what happens.Like Maya Angelou poem "Phenomenal Woman" I can see a woman that is strong and is well smart about what she do." I agree with her that actions speak louder than words. I'm like like her though and can predict what happened in the picture without words.

post 18 why images can mean so many different things.

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
(Hey)
Damn, who knew?
All the planes we flew
Good things we've been through
That I'll be standing right here talking to you
'Bout another path
I know we loved to hit the road and laugh
But something told me that it wouldn't last
Had to switch up
Look at things different, see the bigger picture
Those were the days
Hard work forever pays
Now I see you in a better place (see you in a better place)
People interpret things differently so lyrics can carry different meanings according to the person. See if someone hasn't seen Furious 7 they could think the song is about a pet or a close friend as in a  long time neighbor. The song says "It's been a long day without you, my friend", someone could say that the person or thing could be someone far far away. A person may say this verse "I know we loved to hit the road and laugh, But something told me that it wouldn't last" could mean they ended the friendship on a bad note. Things could have so many different meanings but when a picture is painted like the movie things are clear.

post 17 MY response to how my colleagues think about myths

Dimetri Carter said  "myths is a perception and how it explains the things that are unexplained." He read the poem " Hazel Tell LaVerne" which he said "the frog is trying to become a prince, and the only way he can is by kissing the maid." I believe that is true because that is something that always stuck with me back when I was a kid watching Disney channel. The movie I'm referring to is "Princess and the Frog." Jaylen said " Usually we think of myths as imaginary gods that are powerful and perform magic and other things." I agree and disagree at the same time. I disagree because when i think about gods I think about people worshiping other people . I agree because I use to be a fan of magic and as i grew older I started knowing it was all a myth.

post 16 use of mythological elements in "Those Winter Sundays"

The culture expectations in this poem is that the man of the house would get up early in the winter to warm up the house. The man of the house should be exhausted from the hard work he had put in throughout the week. Robert Hayden said "this poem is about the cold past and a present reverence for him." I think this still lives on today. Fathers are always at fault if something goes wrong. They still get up early to cook, work, and do things around the house to keep everything running smoothly.

post 15 my colleagues favorite song or poem.

Shawnise favorite song lyric is by Twenty-one Pilots. The song is called "Holding on to you". She love this lyric because it describes how people can change the way they feel about themselves. I have never heard this song. i'm now interested to listen to it. Trayjon favorite song is lose yourself by Eminem. He like that song a lot, because he connect to it, and relate to it. The theme of his favorite song is to never lose yourself. Lose who you are, but it's also about coming out of your shell, and doing what you want to be, and be who you truly want to be.

post 14 My favorite song lyric

My favorite song is See You Again by Wiz Khalifa. The theme of this song is to remain positive when a friend pass because you will see them again. This song is close to me because tomorrow isn't promised and you don't see your friends everyday. Song lyrics:

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again

post 13 theme of my life so far

I would say the theme of my life so far is to get a higher education and while doing so make good connections. When its time for me to get a job or internship I will already be plugged in for the job. having people who can vouch for you and know you well will open up doors you never thought was possible. I also want to get a higher education so I will be able to pay my mom back for everything she has put into me. I would like for her to be able to not have to work anymore. It's just the way I want to tell her thank you.

post 12 theme of my favorite movie

I have a couple of favorite movies. Today I'm just going to tell you about one. In stomp the yard The themes were honor, learning from your mistakes, teamwork, letting go of who you were so that you can see who you are and influence whom you will become. Lastly It was about second chances really and redemption. These lessons helped me to become the man i am today. It taught me to never give up no matter how hard things get. I will have another chance. Don't let anything get in my path of success.

Post 11 2 colleagues symbols they keep on or with them

In SadieSae Siobhan said "my rings and my Jesus bracelet. The rings symbolizes that my mom gave me a heart ring and it means the most to me. I wear it on my right had middle finger. The second ring that I wear is on my left hand on my marriage finger.  It symbolizes the graduation ring that was giving to me from my God Dad. Also, the Jesus bracelet that I wear on wrist comes from my mother also." This says to me that she has good faith. She is close with her family. I can tell that by the way she talks about them.
In Akeryah's blog she said she keeps a army hat on her because her boyfriend gave it to her.She went off to college as her boyfriend went to the army basic training. she has plenty of bears and jackets so she can keep him close. She says he will now be in Korea for two years. I can tell she really loves and support her boyfriend. I can tell she will be loyal to him until he comes back.

post 10 something I often wear or carry and what it symbolizes.

I wear Sweaters because my grandmother Always brought me one every time she saw me. I carry a Bible to Show my faith in my religion. I always have my wallet which has pictures of family and friends to keep them close to me. Having their picture allows me to think of all the memories that was shared with them. Sometimes it may cause me to get sad or it may make me laugh out loud. My wallet is also special to me because my best friend sent it to me as a christmas gift. it meant he is always thinking about me. I didn't ask for it.

Post 9 response to 2 colleague's view of setting.

Shawnise said "Krebs town is very small and not a lot of things happen there. The rest of the story explains how Krebs just wants to relax and be to himself because he has had too much excitement during WWI." She didn't get the point that his time being over seas fighting is what caused him to come back the way he is. He is very paranoid and his family doesn't see why he is acting different. When you have seen enough of the blood, guts and dead people it all takes a toll on you after the fact. He realized after the lies he told people back home how much of a toll it took on him. He thinks no one really knows what they go through. Jaylen said in her blog "in "Geese"the symbolism in the setting in Japan was that Dina was out of touched with reality and she did not think about what you have to do or go through to get a pile of money. She did not have any type of plan before she left her hometown which left Dina in a world of trouble." She understood the meaning behind the story but didn't say much about the setting.

post 08 about the setting in Hemingway's story

Krebs left college to enlist and go to war for his country in 1917. He came back to the United States after after the group before him came back. He returned in 1919. He eventually returned to Oklahoma years after the war was over. No one knew why he decided to come back so late after the war. The social norm back then was he had to lie in order for his friends to believe him. Thats Basicly a double standard. It eventually caught up with him because he began to have flashbacks of what really happened.

Post 07 Response to my colleagues' post

In Trayjon post he talked about how the author life affected the poem. The author was going through life being alone. He was alone because he lost his mother and a few others before this was published. I agree that if you lose someone near and dear to your heart that you feel like you all in the world by yourself. Sometimes I feel that way because I lost my grandmother five years ago.
http://basicdrummer.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-author-of-acquainted-with-night.html

In Monicia post her author is Gail Godwin from "A Sorrowful Woman". She at times didn't know what role to play as a woman. Ladies are still like that today. They are always indecisive. They always need another opinion before they make a decision. She is the opposite of her character in person. She has won award and things for her accomplishments.  She knows what she wants out of life and is going after the gold.

Post 6 how the author's life of your Doc1 story/poem affects the story or poem.

My author didn't use personal experiences to connect to the story. They used symbolism that could have multiple meaning. The way they decided to use it is how they probably felt. The symbolism helps interpret what the artist wanted us to get out of the poem.

Post 5 what my peers thought about their stories

Jayla learned "how an author can use symbols and symbolism thought a poem to create different meanings. "She understood the symbolism included in the poem but didn't make a connection to anything else. She didn't say any of the meanings she got out of the poem. Jaylen learned from his story is" that some people just give up on themselves, family, and the world. The woman in the story did no longer wanted to be part of her family and society." She also learned that as a woman they are more than just a wife or a mother. She truly interpreted her story and understood it.

post 4 What I learned about my poem

I learned that the person is like a night owl. they are wide awake in the night. they have seen and heard everything from cries to the rain drops. The person is kinda like me. if I'm down or just need time away from things i go out for a walk.  Some nights I just can't fall asleep so, I have to get out. Part of that reason could be we have too much on our mind.

post 03 the story i choose for doc 1

I chose Kate Chopin's " the Story of An Hour". I picked this story because I like how it builds. I like the tension. It kind of remind me of the plot of how Gerry from my first post died in the movie remember the titans. he got in a car accident after a big win and was hospitalized. after a couple of years later he passed and brought everyone in the town together as one. that was significant in the story because race was a dividing factor. in the story I chose everyone showed Mrs. Mallard their condolences for her losing her husband.

Post 02 My favorite movie

My favorite movie is Remember the Titans. This movie got me wanting to play football when I was younger. Up until 5th grade I wanted to do anything as long as it didn't involve football. My excuse was they hit too hard. After watching that movie I ended up playing with one of my friends for my 1st time playing. We made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs and also played in the Georgia Dome against an Alabama team. We won that game and ended the season  on a good note. I had a bestfriend that was as close to me just like Julius and Gerry Bertier. We ended up losing contact after the last game and it's been 7 years since I've seen him.
